“In my design, I strive to create forms in harmony with nature by referencing traditional patterns. Regardless of the field I am working in, I seek to produce timeless forms. In order to do so, I always refer to nature, where I find harmony among proportions, materials, and forms. In my work, nature serves as the source for a wide array of devices relying on mitate. The sun and the moon, water and other elements—natural phenomena—are the models from which I draw inspiration to give form to my design, creating spaces with the people who will experience them in mind. Our subconscious is sensitive to the contrasts between shadow and light while we move through a room, as well as the subtle textures and finishes of different materials of the floors and walls. Our perspectives and emotions are altered by the height we look through a window, as well as the objects, or lack thereof, placed throughout a room.”
