A living exhibition where art, gastronomy, and hospitality converge —
Orozco’s home, reimagined in Tokyo.
Project O+O is a collaboration between artist Gabriel Orozco and designer Shinichiro Ogata.
Co-presented with kurimanzutto, the project transforms HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo into a temporary extension of Orozco’s home, a living exhibition where artworks, specially designed objects, and culinary experiences converge in an environment of artistic exploration.
Featuring new works by Gabriel Orozco, the exhibition explores the connection between art, gastronomy, and hospitality, reflecting the creative dialogue between Tokyo and Mexico City and the longstanding friendship between Orozco and Ogata. Additionally, Project O+O is a three-year project that travels across three cities: following this year's presentation in Tokyo, the stage moves to Mexico City next year, and to Paris in 2028.
Celebrating the culinary traditions of Orozco’s native Mexico, the experience includes casual tacos by day and a reservation-only omakase by night, served on custom-designed tableware by Ogata in collaboration with Cooperativa 1050° Oaxaca.

Gabriel Orozco
Working through drawing, photography, sculpture and installation, Orozco draws from everyday materials and circumstances, as well as from his own encounters and routines. Among his best-known works are drawings on airline boarding passes, a modified Citroën automobile (La DS, 1993), Empty Shoe Box (1993) and a whale skeleton covered in graphite patterns (Mobile Matrix, 2006). Over the past decade, he has expanded this engagement through a series of large-scale landscape projects: a permanent garden for the South London Gallery (2016), the cultural master plan for Chapultepec Park in Mexico City (2019–present), and a site-specific garden commission for the Leeum Museum of Art in Seoul (2026). Orozco has presented major exhibitions at leading institutions worldwide, among them The Museum of Modern Art, New York (2009); Centre Pompidou, Paris (2010); Tate Modern, London (2011); Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York (2012); Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (2015); The Noguchi Museum, New York (2019); and Museo Jumex, Mexico City (2025). He has participated in the Venice Biennale several times (2017, 2005, 2003, and 1993) and in Documenta (2002 and 1997). His work has been the subject of more than 25 monographs.
Shinichiro Ogata
A designer and the founder of Simplicity Co. He lives and works in Tokyo and Paris. Having established Simplicity Co. in 1998, Ogata aspires to establish a contemporary way of being inspired by the culture and traditions of Japan. In Japan, Ogata has developed his own specialized establishments, including tea houses, restaurants, tea and confectionary brands and a collection of craft products. In addition to his own company’s brands, Ogata is responsible for the design and direction of a wide range of projects in architectural, interior, product, graphic, and packaging design. He founded OGATA to share the fruits of his work with a wide international community.

HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo
A standalone house in the quiet of Higashi-Yama, Meguro, away from the city’s noise. It was Shinichiro Ogata’s first project undertaken as his own work. Since opening in 1998, it has been a restaurant for people to gather, share conversations, and forge new connections. It is also Gabriel Orozco’s favorite among the places Shinichiro Ogata has conceived.

CASA DRAGONES
Project O+O: Gabriel Orozco at HIGASHI-YAMA Tokyo is honored to welcome CASA DRAGONES as a collaborating partner.
The partnership began organically: CASA DRAGONES is Orozco’s tequila of choice. But the connection extends beyond taste. Founder and CEO Bertha González Nieves has long held a personal connection to Japan, one that eventually led her to Mizunara oak — a rare wood native to Japan and traditionally reserved for aging Japanese whisky. In 2018, Casa Dragones became the first tequila house to import Mizunara casks to Tequila, Jalisco, working with Japan’s only independent cooperage to craft custom casks from the wood. The result, Casa Dragones Reposado Mizunara, is the first tequila ever rested exclusively in Mizunara oak — a direct expression of Mexican craftsmanship shaped by Japanese material and technique.
