From October 9th to November 3rd, OGATA Paris is inviting Kaaron Studio to showcase sculptures across the three levels of the venue. These sculptures are made of raw earth, providing a contemporary reinterpretation of an ancient material. Disseminated throughout the spaces of this former hôtel particulier, these pieces engage in a profound dialogue with the different materials that structure OGATA’s space: 17th-century stone, wood (burnt, hammered, chiselled), copper, earth and concrete. This relationship between the building and the sculptures creates an effect that is at times mirror-like, at other times trompe-l’œil, giving the building’s structure a new vibrancy, revealing its know-how and inviting contemplation.

Touching the earth, smelling it, kneading it, contemplating it—this is to love it. Everything that comes from it is a source of transmission. Earth restores a sense of freedom and, in its presence, it does not lie.
From a horizontal plane to a vertical one, raw earth has been raised to monumental volumes over the millennia and continues to do so today. These vernacular architectures, habitats, palaces, places of worship, and sculptures embody a cultural synergy enriched by popular genius, connecting humanity to spirituality (…).
The local straw that we intertwine in our mixtures serves as a binder; it is both the framework and visually a fabric of gold.
Each of the raw earth works is the anchoring point of a shared intention to reveal the space as a source of sacred origin. It is a way of bowing to its strength, which is the indivisible part of a whole.

Kaaron Studio

Founded in 2012, Kaaron Studio is an artists duo both trained in fine art, establishing themselves as a laboratory for artistic research and design. Raw earth is their main medium. For many years, they have practiced painting and sculpture, collaborating with galleries in France and abroad. At the same time, they forged relationships with craftsmen over a ten-year period, designing furniture from materials such as stone, glass, wood and quilted tiles. Today, they devote themselves fully to painting and exploring raw earth.
